About This Event

The Goodman Building is a striking heritage-listed Edwardian structure originally built in 1908-1909 as the headquarters for Adelaide's Municipal Tramways Trust, serving as the administrative hub for the city's newly electrified tram network. Named after Sir William Goodman, the chief engineer responsible for electrifying Adelaide's tramways, the building now functions as the administrative center for the Adelaide Botanic Garden and the State Herbarium, located at the Hackney Road entrance. Its restoration, which included sourcing roofing slates from Wales to match the original design, won the 2023 David Saunders Award for Heritage Architecture. This transformation from a tram depot to a botanical administration building makes it a unique blend of industrial heritage and botanical significance within the city
